29- Lighting technique

Split Lighting
Loop Lighting
Rembrandt
Paramount lighting

1,. My favorite photo is Thomas Lafrance in the “Rembrandt” photo. I like this photo because the black and white along with the sharpness of the Rembrandt style photo adds a lot of emotion and effect to the photo. Almost made me cry.

2. A type of photo technique I really want to apply to future photos is the paramount style. The paramount style really puts emphasis and detail Lon the models face and has a lot of emotion to it.

25- Motion Blog post

LIGHT PAINTING: Bright colors making shapes. >1024; f/13; ISO 100; Manual; Pattern metering
FROZEN ACTION: New Heights 1/800 sec; f/5.6; ISO 320; Action Program (biased toward fast shutter speed); Pattern metering
MOTION BLUR: Miles on a million backs! 1/500 sec; f/4.5; ISO 640; Action Program (biased toward fast shutter speed); Pattern metering

Advice that I would suggest is to find an activity that involves physical objects to interact with such as the motion blur photo where Miles is kicking the soccer ball. Finding photos that involve interactive elements make the photos more interesting and the experience of taking the photo a lot more enjoyable and makes you truly appreciate the photos.

Pete Alonso- king of homersThe message my image is trying to make is that Pete Alonso is the king of hitting home runs and he is the one of the best players in the MLB. This message is a statement because Pete is one of the best players on the New York Mets and he hits so many home runs every year which leads me to believe he is the best home run hitter in baseball. Alonso has hit the most homeruns in MLB since he came into the league and this has made his identity as a homerun hitter. When I was exploring self portraits for the project I came across a lot of portraits of kings which made me think of Pete Alonso, the king of hitting home runs.  Advice I would give to creating composite images is to have true background and meaning to your photos. Find something that interests you and choose the celebrity as someone who associates with that image. In this case, Pete Alonso associates with a picture of a king because the message of this photo is that he is the king of homeruns.

A. What is the distinct mood of this photograph? Explain. The mood of the photo “Shadow” is peaceful and optimism. The foundation of these moods come from the color green which is the light in this photo. The fading green allows the photo to have a peaceful sense to it which is calming.

B. What does this photo make you think about? Explain. The photo “Shadow makes me think of a sunset and the light of the sun going down and the background having a darker sense to it just as the photo. The pattern of the bowl reminds me of a weaved basket.

C. What in the photo jumps out at you? Explain. What jumps out at me in the photo “Shadow” is the amount of expression and the amount of importance the shadow plays in the photo. The shadow is truly the emphasis of the photo and the green light I feel makes the dark shadow stand out. A light color like green can make a dark shadow stand out a lot more and thats what I feel makes the shadow a lot stronger.

D. How does this photo make you feel? Explain. The photo “Shadow” makes me feel calm and the shadow makes me feel as if small things can truly have a ton behind it. I feel as if the shadow represents the importance of context and to never just judge by the eye but try to dive deeper into everything as there may always be a story behind it.

E. What advice would you give to next year’s students for shooting abstract photography? Explain. advice I would give to next years students is to find good colors to make your shadow stand out. Colors I would suggest are green, yellow, and blue.

Wonderful food with wonderful faces!

Taken in Denville, NJ
  1. For photo one I chose the banana because the bright yellow would drag the eye to the center of the photo. The face from the photo brings emotion and humor to the photo as well. For photo two I chose the big rice krispies treat because the candy was the focal point of the photo and the bright blue color would also bring the eye to the center of the photo.
  2. The lighting in the first photo plays a big role in the yellowness of the banana and the brightness of the face, making the photo more joyful. This photo was taken in the morning near 10 AM. The second photos lighting plays more of a minor role  and lightens up the face a little bit since the photo was taken indoors around 2PM.
  3. the composition for photo one is Pattern disruption. all of the grey around the photo is disrupted by the yellow and the color of the face. Photo twos composition is symmetry because the photo is lined up the middle and positioned in the center of the photo.
  4. The reason for why I chose the banana and the face in photo one to colorize was because it fit the title of the pictures and it draws interest to what the person is holding. Simon also really loves bananas! For photo two i chose the face and food because the emphasis of the photo revolves around the food with the photo being taken in a candy store.
  5. I took the first photo using a short lens. While editing the photo i turned down the saturation and enhanced the brightness of the banana. I took the second photo on an iPhone and while editing I turned down the saturation to 0 and enhanced the food and the face.
  6.  Advice I would give to the photographers next year is to find a special area to take the photo. Another piece of advice is to make sure the area you’re taking the photo in is bright and shows emotion. Make sure the food is fun!

  1. A strength I see in my work is finding the right spots to take the photos, but my weakness is blurriness in the photos. Part of the reason why the photos get blurry are my hands not being still with the camera. Another reason to why photos can be blurry are not zooming in or out when  I need to.
  2. I can improve on this by keeping the camera still and using the lens more and often. Keeping my hands still can stop the photos from appearing rough or sloppy. Using the lens more can increase the look of my photos by the lens being more zoomed in or being zoomed out which can help the angle of my photos.
  3. In the photo form, 3D shape I wanted to convey the emotion of beauty in color. The parts of red on the end of the flower bring out the color and are the highlight of the photo. The water drops show a sense of stillness and the thorns on the flower can resemble the sharpness of the photo.
  4. A couple elements I’d like to explore more in photography are line and Space. Line interests me because of how much line people see in their everyday lives. Line is everywhere and people don’t seem to recognize it. Space is my favorite element because I enjoy the closeups more than any of my other photos.
  5. I want to experiment more with closeups in my future photos. Closeups interest me a lot because the photos to me look better than any other type of photo. The detail, the color, the water specs, no matter what it is these type of photos fascinate me.
